Mary + Roy

Mary + Roy

Downtown ATL Rooftop • Piedmont Park • Atlanta, GA

Roy and Mary's love story all began with a meet-cute! They met at a dinner party their friends hosted back in 2018 where they just so happened to sit across from each other at the dinner table. From then on they quickly became friends and in May 2019, they officially started dating!

This beautiful couple wanted to take their engagement photos in formal wear and casual wear. Before the shoot, Mary sent me pictures of their outfits and I was blown away by her formal dress! The dress was absolutely stunning and I couldn't wait to take pictures of her in it! I then sent them a list of locations for the shoot and they were eager to go with Downtown ATL Rooftop and Piedmont Park.

We were originally supposed to shoot on a Sunday, but the forecast was terrible. 100% chance of rain! We were lucky enough to be able to reschedule for the morning before, but I was nervous about our booking time. It would be way after sunrise, which means tricky lighting and lots of shadows.

On the day of the engagement photos session, we decided to carpool to save money on parking costs. When we arrived at the rooftop, I noticed there was zero shade anywhere! A photographer's nightmare! As I desperately tried to find a spot with shade, I noticed that there was another level on the rooftop. We decided to drive up to the top and long behold, the entire area was shaded! A photographer's dream!

The shoot was amazing! Their poses were captivating and the backgrounds complemented them so well. Roy and Mary were the coolest, laid-back couple, taking any direction I gave them. They looked so natural and happy in their photos. We took some shots on the street, which came out so lovely! I wanted to take some pictures at a spot that has a neon red sign that says "Made with Soul in Atlanta," but it was closed off due to construction. That was a bit of a bummer but we still had so many awesome shots that it really wasn't a big deal.

We ended up shooting more photos at the Centennial Olympic Park right across the street from the Ferris wheel. We also got some great shots of them walking in a shaded area with more buildings in the background. As much as we would have loved to keep getting more gorgeous shots, Roy had to be home for work soon. We had only about 15 minutes to shoot when we got to Piedmont Park. The clock was ticking but we made it work! I found some more shaded areas near the entrance of the garage so we wouldn't spend any extra time walking. I'm impressed by how many amazing varieties of shots we got in just 15 minutes!

This engagement session with Roy and Mary was so fun! I'm looking forward to photographing their wedding in October! The pictures taken during their photoshoot perfectly capture the love between them. These photos will be treasured for many years to come as a reminder of their journey together so far. Take a look! P.S. Roy made it work on time haha!
